This is where many visitors spend their time when visiting Raleigh, with most of the area being easy to explore on foot. You can cover the majority of the major attractions in a day and those visitors who don't fancy walking can make use of the Raleigh Trolley.

Glenwood South is an up-and-coming part of downtown Raleigh that is well worth a look if you have the time. The area has largely been renovated and there are numerous smart shops and restaurants lining the once boring and non-descript streets.

A perfectly preserved slice of Victorian America, the Historic Oakwood district is the number one area in Raleigh for the historian. Oakwood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the largest and most comprehensive historic district in the city, covering 20 blocks. The homes here were constructed between 1870 and 1912, and the focus of the area is Raleigh's historic Oakwood Cemetery, situated next to Oakwood Park.

Cameron Village is a 1950s district of Raleigh to the north of downtown, known for its ranch-style homes and excellent shopping.
